Stacking The Shelves #24: Lullaby, Tidal, Broken Kingdoms, The Elegance of the Hedgehog, Except the Queen, Mystic City

This is a weekly event hosted by Jennifer, Lili,
Stephanie, Helen, and Tynga @ Tynga's Reviews!

As the title implies, this is all about
sharing the books you're adding
to your shelves, be they physical or virtual.

This week's haul!!

Books Purchased

This novel is the second in
Amanda Hocking's
Watersong Series.  Since
I've always loved stories of mermaids
and sirens, I just knew I had to
get this book!
Besides, I was able to buy a
signed copy!!

This is the third novel of
the Watersong Series.
I love that cover!!

I found this one on the bargain table
at Barnes & Noble,
and was immediately attracted
by the gorgeous cover!
(Blue gets me every time....)
According to the synopsis on the back
of the book, this is
a spellbinding fantasy, and I adore those!!

This novel reminds me a little of
another one dealing with philosophical
topics -- Sophie's World --
although this one approaches the theme
from a different angle.
It also deals with the idea that
appearances can and frequently are
deceiving.

This is another Barnes & Noble
bargain table find
that caught my eye right away!
It looks like an intriguing fantasy,
involving the fae.
Just the kind of thing I love to read!!

This is the first of another fantasy series,
which I've heard is supposed to be
absolutely fascinating!!
It combines several genres -- fantasy,
dystopian fiction, paranormal
romance, and young adult fiction.
When I saw it at a Books-A-Million outlet,
I didn't hesitate twice!

What do you think of my haul?
What fascinating books
have you added
to your shelves this week?

  5. I had left a comment but I think that the demons of the new swallowed it :)

I looked up The Elegance of the Hedgehog it does sound like it delves into some really interesting ideas concerning identity. I look forward to reading what you think of it when you get to it.

I really love the covers of both The Broken Kingdoms and Mystic City

    1. Hey, Brian!

Gee, I'm sorry to hear that....I'll go check my spam folder.

Anyway....I discovered "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" thanks to a nonfiction book I was reading -- "Tolstoy and the Purple Chair"/ (I had to stop reading it, though, because the author meant it not only as an account of her year of reading, but also as a memorial to her sister, who passed away due to cancer. It just got too depressing after a while....but I did discover this GREAT book!)

When I looked up "Hedgehog" on Goodreads, I totally fell in love with the plot! Actually, I think it's more the characters I found myself falling for. I love how the author points out that people who might be "glossed over" by others can actually be very profound, intellectual, and culturally aware. I also love the fact that the main characters in this novel are all misfits, and they band together. This totally ROCKS!!

I agree with you about the covers of "The Broken Kingdoms" and "Mystic City"! They drew me to the books, and I just HAD to own them!! When some time has passed, I'll be featuring them each in my "Shelf Candy Saturday" meme.

Thanks for another great comment!! : )
